Mobile Phones

I’ve been working on mobile phone designs since the mid 1990’s. Initially designing for Maxon Electronics. Things were more basic then – especially the renderings.

I moved to research and design for Nokia in 1997. Some amazing times, with unusual form factors – a lot of them hit products in the market.  Handsets, accessories, packaging.

Sometimes the design proposal didn’t make it! Maybe it would today.

I joined Samsung in 2007 – working on various different segments. Luxury phones, basic phones, rugged phones, messaging phones, smartphones.

Mobile phone design after iPhone changed completely. Connectivity and enhanced internet experience led every design decision.

Form remains every bit as important though, and the remit of the designer has expanded to accessories, wearables and UI considerations throughout the whole product.

These designs were for a Chinese client in 2014.
